Benvenuti!
Since 1970, the University of Georgia Cortona Program, located in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Italy, has been a leader in education abroad. It is UGA’s oldest study abroad offering programs throughout the year, calling the town of Cortona home for over 50 years.
The UGA International Center in Cortona, Italy offers study abroad programs in Art and Art History during the Spring, Summer, and Fall academic terms. Additionally, it runs more concentrated programs during the month of May; these Maymester programs specialize in a variety of disciplines, including Terry Business & Image, Science and Art History, Viticulture and Enology.
Cortona is a hill town located in central Italy, in the region of Tuscany, approximately 65 miles from Florence, and 120 miles from Rome. Many visitors travel to Cortona from around the world, giving the town an unmistakably international flavor. Each year it hosts numerous concerts, festivals, performances, and exhibitions, and there is an active community of artists living in and around Cortona.
Its history begins during the Etruscan period (600 to 300 BCE), and includes occupation by the Roman empire, rebirth as a medieval comune (independent city-state), and prosperity during the Italian Renaissance under the Grand Dukes of Florence. It is the birthplace of painters Luca Signorelli (1445-1523) and Gino Severini (1883-1966).
