UGA Cortona regularly welcomes non-UGA students on our programs! Please read through the below transient student process.
Transient Student Process
Complete a program application in the UGA StudyAway portal
- Upload a signed and completed Home Institution Notification Form to your StudyAway portal application
- Upload a official or unofficial transcript to your StudyAway portal application
Once you have been accepted as a UGA Cortona Program participant
- UGA Cortona Acceptance Packet: You will receive an email from the UGA Cortona Program with your acceptance packet attached. Read this information carefully.
- UGA StudyAway portal:
- Click ‘commit’ in the UGA StudyAway portal
- Pay your commitment deposit in the UGA StudyAway portal. Check with your home institution to make certain you are responsible for paying your deposit.
- Complete all post-decision materials, signature documents, and learning content in the UGA StudyAway portal
- UGA Admissions Transient Student Application:
- Complete a UGA Admissions transient student study abroad application via the UGA Undergraduate Admissions website, https://www.admissions.uga.edu/prospective-students/other-applicants/exchange-study-abroad. PLEASE NOTE: You will remain a student at your home institution, but your must become a temporary UGA student, or transient student, for the term you attend the UGA Cortona study abroad program in order to earn UGA credit for the courses you complete.
- After completing your UGA Admissions application, upload the Study Abroad Transient Admissions form, or SATA form, to your UGA Admissions application. This form will be provided to you by the UGA Cortona program once you have been accepted as a participant. In the drop down menu in the Admissions application portal, select Departmental Approval Form and upload the SATA form. PLEASE NOTE: Before uploading your SATA form to your UGA Undergraduate Admissions application, please verify that all of the information listed on the SATA form under “Applicant Information” is accurate. If it is not, please email the program at

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the corrections, and we will send you an updated form. - Send an official transcript from your home institution to UGA Admissions, UGA Undergraduate Admissions Office, 210 South Jackson Street, Athens, GA 30602-1633. This can be done electronically by your home institution's Registrar.
- Once you have been accepted by UGA Admissions as a UGA transient student, UGA Admissions requires you to
- upload a PDF photocopy of your passport to verify your identity
- confirm your immunization records by sending a copy to UGA's University Health Center
Program Costs
Check with your home institution regarding the exact process for payment of UGA tuition and UGA Cortona Study Abroad Program fees. Non-UGA students will qualify to pay UGA in-state tuition while attending the UGA Cortona Program.
UGA tuition is not included in the UGA Cortona Program fee. See bursar.uga.edu for UGA tuition rates.
The cost of the UGA Cortona Program includes:
- Program deposit (applied towards total program cost)
- International health insurance (UGA requirement)
- Charter bus transportation on all planned field trips
- Shared hotel accommodations when traveling in-country and dorm at UGA Cortona Center
- Majority of meals are covered
- Program t-shirt
Students who are not residents of Georgia or do not attend a University System of Georgia University or College may be required to pay an additional $250.00 at the time of UGA tuition payment.
